Where can I get a good-but-not-too-expensive Tenor Saxophone?

I've been involved in music, literally, all my life. I consider myself a fairly talented musician partly because every member of my family plays an instrument. All my activities I participate in relate somehow to music. So, as I see it, I'd like a good tenor sax that isn't wildly expensive because I figure that, with practice, I'll get used to the instrument and wouldn't want to have bought one that wears out quickly. Which brands should I look out? Are different mouthpieces necessary?
